10 IDEAS TO CHANGE AMERICA

Saturday, January 17, 2009 , Posted by LATINO EVENTS Y TESPIS MAGAZINE at 12:53 PM

Ideas for Change in America is a citizen-driven project that aims to identify and create momentum around the best ideas for how the Obama Administration and 111th Congress can turn the broad call for "change" across the country into specific policies. The project was created in the wake of the 2008 Presidential Election in response to President-elect Barack Obama's call for increased civic participation in America. It is not connected to the Obama campaign or the administration. Today at a press event at the National Press Club in Washington DC, Change.org announced the 10 winning ideas that reflect the diverse interests of the millions of people calling for change across the country, and include ideas for securing universal heath care, LGBT rights, inmigration, education and sustainable green energy.
The winning ideas were accepted on behalf of the Presidential Transition Team by Macon Phillips, the Director of New Media and the person who oversees our second-favorite website, Change.gov. With almost 8,000 ideas, more than 600,000 votes, and more than 175,000 participants, the Ideas for Change initiative has shown the widespread interest across the country in renewed civic participation and direct engagement in policy making. And this is just the beginning. Starting next week, each winning idea will be paired up with a sponsoring nonprofit, which will begin a national campaign to translate each into actual policy. We'll be documenting the process here at Tespis Magazine and at Change.org, so look out for more from us soon.To get involved and to see all winning ideas please visit www.change.org/ideas. Here at Tespis we are sponsoring the Dream Act, one of the winning ideas. Take a look.
